THE Morobe provincial government needs a new building to cater for its members, MPs and public servants, says a council president.

Buang president Steven Sep said the headquarters was run-down and lacked modern facilities to carry  out operations and administration.

Speaking during a grievances debate in the Morobe Tutumang (provincial assembly) yesterday, Sep asked Governor Kelly Naru and the local MPs to assist in the plans and construction of a new building.

Naru said the provincial executive council was working on a proposal to seek financiers and investors to build a modern building in Lae city.

Bulolo MP Sam Basil said the provincial administration and assembly lacked proper data storage systems and modern communication systems.

“Importantly, the communication systems to connect national MPs and provincial members with the governor’s office and various divisions in the administration, including district administrators, are totally lacking. We are nowhere near to cope with the modern era,” he said.

Basil said Morobeans experienced various crisis, disasters, unrests, protest and there needed to be a crisis management plan, equipment and facilities in place, with swift communication systems and a data base paramount to gather facts and figures to advise leaders so they could communicate, discuss and find means of addressing grievances.
