THE national executive council has abolished the Bialla local level government in West New Britain and replaced it with two new ones – Central and East Nakanai.

These two new LLGs have 13 ward councils each which will see people elect 26 councillors in next month’s elections.

Talasea district, which used to have six LLGs, now has seven. Kandrian-Gloucester district has five.

The Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs confirmed last week that there was an increase in the number of LLGs and wards.

Provincial election manager Emily Siamoli said people in the province would be electing 12 presidents and 119 ward councillors next month.

She said Tuesday was the deadline for electoral forms to be handed in and they would be sent to Port Moresby next week.

Election awareness began this week, she said.
