Morobe schools need restoration of facilities

Education

MOROBE’s Salamaua High School is now recognised by the provincial administration and government as one of the special schools that needs refurbishment.
deputy provincial administrator, social services, Robin Bazinuc made the comment following a query about cheques for K400,000 given to Nawaeb Lutheran Secondary and Salamaua High schools early last year, that had bounced.
The cheques were said to be replaced with money from school infrastructure grants, which Bruten said that due to the state of Salamaua High, and with advice from Bazinuc, they added K500,000 to the school and built a K700,000 dormitory, which is yet to be commissioned.
Regarding Nawaeb Secondary, Bruten said that they would assist, but had not received any concerns and requests from the school.
Bazinuc said Salamaua High would be upgraded to secondary status after renovations, maintenance and building of new facilities and infrastructure.
Salamaua is one of the oldest high schools in the province.
Huon Gulf education manager Sam Geseng said they were aware of the state the school, and were working with the provincial administration and education division to restore it.
Bruten honoured a commitment made to the school last year by buying a genset worth about K63,000.
