Central, Morobe and hosts West New Britain pocketed gold in eight-ball snooker.
The three categories played at the PNG Games are mixed doubles, women’s and men’s singles.
Team Morobe’s pair of Egan Saun and Annette Mondo got gold in the mixed doubles beating Central 2-0. Team Central bagged silver and Team NCD the bronze.
In the men’s category Team Central won gold, NCD silver and hosts West New Britain bronze.
The hosts topped the women’s category winning gold and silver while NCD settled for bronze.
Deputy chairman of PNG Games Council John Boino in his address to the players taking part in the games, said that all must set up associations in their provinces.
“I would like to say that the bottom line is that 8-ball snooker is the winner because some of us had fought tooth and nail to be part of the competition. I want to stress a point that 8-ball snooker was not a significant part of the
PNG Games charter and games on offer.
“But we worked around the clock to make sure it is a popular sport. To make it possible for the next PNG Games the sport needs to get itself organised,” Boino said.
He said provinces that participated in the Games should have associations affiliated to the national federation.
“This sport is a popular sport and PNG Games Council wants to ensure that this sport continues to be part of the PNG Games.”
