TWELVE West Papuans were in Mumeng last week teaching technology skills to women and youths through partnership with the GKI Church of Indonesia.
A partnership through a memorandum of understanding signed between the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELC) Mumeng district and GKI Church of West Papua in 2014 saw numerous exchange visits by members of both churches.
The West Papuan delegation was led by head of partnership programmes Rev Pastor Edward Sabarofek, of Sinode GKI East Biak Temuk, West Papua in Indonesia, and director of GKI Women’s Training Centre Hermina Rumbrar, along with a colleague teacher in Petigawe.
Nine were mothers from Biak and two female pastors, who facilitated West Papuan-oriented skills training on free-hand sewing, catering and arts and craft.
The team taught cottage industry skills to than 100 women who graduated with certificates. The women represented 20 Lutheran Parishes in Mumeng.
Rumbrar said some women had worked hard in their local parishes and congregations. She said the mission to Mumeng was also to teach women cook different dishes using local food.
