AUSTRALIAN Prime Minister Scott Morrison has commended his PNG counterpart Peter O’Neill for the successful hosting of Apec 2018 in Port Moresby last week.
During a barbecue at the residence of Australian High Commissioner to PNG Bruce Davis in Port Moresby on Sunday evening, Morrison praised O’Neill for bringing the leaders of the 21 economies and the Pacific Islands to PNG.
He said it was a big credit to him and the country.
Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also joined other Apec leaders in thanking O’Neill for a job well done.
Lae businessman Kandaso Napi said O’Neill had made PNG proud.
“We must move forward with our heads high and believe in ourselves, determined and proud that our prime minister and our Government staged a successful Apec,” he said.
He said he did not believe four years ago when the idea of hosting Apec was mooted by the government that we could pull it off.
He said the country needed a “visionary leader with transactional skills” who was not only prepared to take risks but also to manage the risks effectively.
