FOUR police motorcycles used for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders’ Summit security have been given to the East Sepik traffic police.
The motorcycles were presented to East Sepik traffic police by Acting Deputy Comm (DCP) (Operations) Donald Yamasombi in Wewak last week.
Yamasombi said traffic policemen in Wewak had never used such motorcycles.
“It will also be something new for the people in town and the province to see policemen in traffic patrol operations.
“Please use the motorcycles with care when there is urgent need or for operations. Apart from using the motorcycles to provide VIP escorts and traffic duties. The machines will also be used for public relations and promotions.
“The gesture shown by the Constabulary and the Australian Federal Police (AFP) via the spirit of the Papua New Guinea (PNG)-Australia Policing Partnership Programme is greatly appreciated by the people of Wewak and East Sepik,” he added.
PNG and AFP officers who accompanied Yamasombi also took the opportunity to give away 120 beach balls to the children who turned up.
