MOTU-KOITA West Netball Association president Kori Toua-Navuru says she is expecting the upcoming season to attract about 2,000 players across 182 teams in Port Moresby.
Toua-Navuru said the season, which tips off on April 18, would be bigger because Tatana and Baruni would also be fielding teams.
“We are expecting about 182 teams across 26 clubs,” she said on Wednesday.
“So we are looking at about 2,000 players, both juniors and seniors.
“I am proud to say that Motu-Koita is the only Papua New Guinea-affiliated association that has a mixed netball division.
“We started off well last year and we are going to continue this season with a lot of interest.
“All the Motu-Koita Netball Association clubs are required to field a mixed netball team.
“We had a very good competition last year. It’s all about inclusivity and gender equality.
“I’m really proud to say that we sent a good contingent to the national championships in Goroka last year and we had three players who were selected.
“We have two players in the junior national training squad and a senior player in the Pepes squad.
“So we are happy and confident that the association has players who are recognised at the international level.”
Motu-Koita Assembly chairman Daddy Toka Jr commended the association for running their competition smoothly.
