THE people of Aitape-Lumi in West Sepik should embrace changes taking place to be able to move ahead.

Aitape-Lumi MP Patrick Pruaitch made the suggestion while delivering his Independence Day anniversary speech at Robert Pera Oval in the small township of Aitape.

Pruaitch, who is Treasury Minister, called on the people to help and support his leadership to bring government goods and services into Aitape.

He was joined by his wife Agnes and the Aitape-Lumi district administration in the celebration.

While complimenting changes and achievements during his term as the local MP, he  paid tribute to the past leadership of Aitape-Lumi.

He took a swipe at the public service machinery in the district step up to deliver goods and services to the rural population of West Sepik.

“It is not my job to deliver goods and services,” Pruaitch said.

“My job as local MP and minister is to source funds to finance the projects and development in the district.

“It is the job for the public servants in district of Aitape and Lumi to take lead in the delivery of the government services.”

He urged contractors engaged in the district to carry out their jobs properly.

“Funds have been secured and contracts given out, but there is nothing to show for them, especially in terms of road development linking Aitape-Wewak and Aitape-Vanimo,” Pruaitch said.

He appealed to the people of Aitape-Lumi to work together and  embrace changes to allow the district to move forward.
