PEOPLE of Chuave in Chimbu have welcomed the acquittal of their MP Wera Mori by the Waigani committal court of fraud-related charges this week.

Businessman Fred Nime said the people were glad that Mori had been cleared of the 37 counts relating to charges of false pretences, official corruption and conspiracy to defraud the Government of K22 million.

He was alleged to have committed the offences between 2009 and 2010 when his company Mori Resources Ltd was awarded a contract to work on the Highlands Highway.

Magistrate Pinnison Pindipia said the evidence produced by police was defective.
