MP queries committee set-up

IALIBU-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill says the establishment of a ministerial committee on the general election is wrong and unconstitutional.
He questioned in Parliament under which law the committee was established to “oversight” the Electoral Commission for the conduct of the 2022 general election.
Prime Minister James Marape said if a ministerial committee was to be established, its main objective would be to ensure that the Electoral Commission was fully resourced.
He said the committee would not “oversight” the commission.
Speaking during question time yesterday, O’Neill queried about the function of the committee.
Marape said the committee would ensure departments such as Finance, Treasury and central agencies took all measures to see that the commission fully resourced.
