MEMBER for Usino and Madang deputy governor Bob Wati has saluted the Chinese government for funding the Usino-junction to Yamagi road.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony last Thursday in the presence of the Chinese ambassador Qiu Bohua and Governor James Gau, Wati
said Usino could become the
second largest industrial town in the province.
He said with the biggest mine project in the country, the concrete sealing of the road could mean better services for his people.
He said a good road network would ensure the distribution of services to the three LLGs of Gama, Bundi and Usino.
Wati said the Butua road and bridge at Ramu existed because of the Ramu-NiCo project.
“The company has recognised our culture and way of life,” he said.
Wati said such tangible developments did not occur when other companies had operated in the area.
“The K25 million project from the Chinese government to cement the road will be the first in the country,” he said.
Assistant secretary in the national works department Gabriel Tomtai apologised to the gathering for the absence of secretary for works.
He said the secretary could not attend but urged the people to work closely with the contractors who would be working on the road.
He said grievances must be channelled through appropriate means.
“Delay in the construction of the road will cost the company,” he said.
Tomtai said the designing and construction of the road would be done by the Chinese government.
