MP wants proper bus stops, more market space

MARKHAM MP Koni Iguan has called on the Morobe government and Lae city authority to provide proper bus stops and more space for vendors at the Lae market.
Iguan told a meeting at Tutumang Haus that locals lacked those facilities.
He suggested that the provincial government and city authority allocate sites in the city where buses and trucks could drop off and pick up passengers, especially those from Menyamya, Bulolo, Markham and Nawaeb.
“At the moment, these PMV/bus stops are all over the places and some rural people do not know where to catch their transport,” he said.
“At the main market, mothers do not have proper space to sell their produce.”
The Morobe government, in its 2020 budget, allocated K10 million for projects in the city.
Lae lord mayor James Khay said the development of the city should be a shared responsibility.
“Road upgrading and many other services that need to be delivered are still there,” he said.
“That is why I am calling on all Morobe MPs to take ownership of the city and support it with funds to improve service delivery.”
Khay said the city authority would look into the issues raised by Iguan.
