MPs urged to prioritise resources during tough economic times

MPs have been urged to prioritise their resources, especially during these tough economic times.
Rigo MP Lekwa Gure said there must be increase in technical capacity at provincial and district levels to deliver services.
“We can make important decisions at the national, provincial and district levels through the DDA but implementation suffers greatly because we do not have technical capacity to deliver services,” he said.
“This is where the service improvement programme comes handy for all of us through the DSIP and PSIP – it’s a great initiative.
“Many of us are complaining about the level of DSIP we are receiving, these funding is dependent on the cash flow and it’s not a constitutional requirement,” Gure said.
He said the current economic situation is teaching the MPs to be disciplined and to prioritise and put little resources in the areas that matter the most.
“The economy is going to improve sooner or later so let’s be patient, given our great potential for this country.
“With the medium term development plan three, it’s encouraging for us to grow our economy in the areas that we are strong at, things like the agriculture, fisheries and tourism because we have the resources.
“Through these areas, we reduce our imports and increase our exports and strike a better balance in our trade with our trading partners and create wealth for our people and improve quality of delivery of services,” Gure said.
