AT least one struggle by the Gagidu Health Clinic in Finschhafen, Morobe, has come to an end with the donation of a new ambulance by Mineral Resources Development Company and the district development authority to the clinic.
The ambulance was given as a sign of goodwill in the good relationship between the company, local MP Rainbo Paita and the people of Finschaffen.
It was handed over in the presence of Prime Minister James Marape and other senior government ministers in Gagidu last week.
The clinic was the oldest health facility in the area and has served people in Finschhafen and neighbouring districts for more than 40 years.
Acting officer in-charge Benson Banzumai said the clinic had struggled in terms of transporting medical kits and referring patients to Brown Memorial Hospital in Butaweng.
“During emergency, we normally run to public servants and private businessmen to transport patients to Butaweng,” he said.
Banzumai said during severe conditions, staff normally used out-patient takings to pay for transportation of patients. “Most times our supplies were damaged due to transportation problem,” he said.
“The staff faced difficulties conducting mobile clinics and rolling out vaccination programmes due to the problem of moving staff and logistics.”
Banzumai said the donation of the ambulance was a relief to people and thanked Paita and MRDC for their timely support.
He also appealed to leaders in the district and responsible authorities to help the clinic cater for large number of patients within Finschhafen urban and nearby villages.
