A MOTHER in Kundiawa, Chimbu, has turned her restaurant into a classroom for young children to receive lessons in a safe environment during the Covid-19 crisis.
Owner of the Simbu Riverside Resort Barbra Yegiora said the children – the eldest in grade four and youngest in kindergarten – have adapted well to their new learning environment.
She uses as a blackboard the board where the menus are usually displayed.
The children are also making use of lessons provided live on television.
She said during a meeting for parents and teachers at the Lutheran Day Secondary School, it was revealed that while masks and hand-washing stations had been set up, social distancing remained a challenge.
Her son Wally Marme Yegiora Jr in grade 11 returned to school last week.
“However, due to the seriousness of the pandemic, we decided to keep the little ones away from school for the rest of this year should there be a relapse of the Covid-19,” she said.
Her daughter-in-law studying at the University of PNG had to withdraw, and her daughter, a former teacher, were teaching the children.

  • Thats the way forward for a better teaching and learning. Education always begins at home. Improvised is taking the challenge to reduce the chance of getting corona virus. Don’t wait for the government or health department to tell you about Prevention and Cure of our children. As long as you have water and toilet for your learners to use .
Great initiatives and God will bless you.
