Muri a big name in basketball

THE Muri name is synonymous with basketball not just in PNG but in Oceania with three generations of the Gulf family having represented the country at the Pacific Games.
This was evident with the acknowledgement and cheers from spectators when the Muri name was announced during the Pacific Games competition in Apia, Samoa.
Women’s coach Moi Muri, a former representative, has son Apia and sister Maka as well as grandson playing for the country’s 5×5 sides while nephews Dia and Obert are part of the 3×3 side.
The other Muri, Purari is a regular in coach Joel Khalu 5×5 side missed the Games through injury.
Brother Dia retired after more than a decade of national representation. Moi Muri played for PNG at the 1983 South Pacific Games in Apia and returns after 36 years.
