THE Joe Keviame Rugby League Oval in Tente, Mendi, will be the home ground for the Mendi Muruks and the Hela Wigman in this year’s Digicel Cup season.

Mendi Rugby League president Barclay Tenza made the announcement last week in a meeting with both franchises in Port Moresby.

It was agreed at the meeting that the Muruks and Wigmen would pay K30,000 to use the venue. The money from would help the Mendi league affiliate its eight clubs to the PNGRFL, as well as cater for referee payments and insurance for players.

Tenza said his league had taken the responsibility to pay the affiliation costs for the clubs and the only fee the clubs had to pay was K300 to the Mendi league.

Tenza said the aim for this year was to have Muruks become a contender for the title in the 2016 Digicel Cup.

The chairmen of both franchises are Pr Isaac Joseph (Muruks) and Andy Hetra (Hela Wigman).

Tenza said MRFL would ensure the field was up to PNGNRL standard in terms of surface quality and security.  He said upgrade work on the venue was being done for the season start.
