THE Mendi Muruks recorded their second win on the trot to kick start their 2021 Digicel Cup campaign as they came from behind to beat the Gulf Isou 34-28 at the Oil Search National Football Stadium on Sunday. The Isou led 16-12 at half-time of the second round fixture before the Muruks scored four unanswered tries that saw them led 34-16 with eight minutes before full time. Isou staged a late fight back in the dying stages and scored back-to-back tries but they fell short as time ran out. Muruks coach Roderick Puname was pleased with the win, however he said there was a need for improvement as far as their defence was concerned. “A win is a win and we’ll take that but there are lot of areas that we need to improve on,” he said. “We need consistency in a game. In this game, we started off pretty well, then went off track with a lot of errors and then we got back again. “Definitely we will work on that going forward.” Isou scored first through winger Gebbie Tauna off a pass from centre Makara Hura. A successful conversion by Roger Laka saw them lead 6-0.
