THE Hekari School of Excellence programme has been running for the past six weeks and the progress of the participating children has been good so far, says Papua New Guinea international and Hekari United veteran David Muta.
The 33-year-old programme coach said he was impressed with the children’s level of talent and interest in the initiative.
Saturday’s session saw scores of children between ages three to 17 years old gathering at the Bisini Soccer Ground despite the rainy weather during the two-hour morning session.
“I’ve been monitoring some of the children we’ve been training since the programme started and they have improved in the basics skills of football after the sixth week,” Muta said.
“Even the children who joined the programme late, they’re catching up.
“They are talented youngsters who are eager to learn and develop themselves as footballers.”
The midfielder reminded the participants that they were the future of football in the country.
