THE Chimbu branch of the National Alliance party has applauded Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare for appointing Kandep MP and NA Highlands deputy leader Don Polye as deputy prime minister.
NA Chimbu branch president Garry Eremuge yesterday said the appointment of Polye to the post was long overdue, describing the deputy PM as “a very consistent NA man faithful to the government”.
Eremuge said the NA executives and supporters in the highlands trusted and had confidence in Polye, who had survived the difficult political times and had proven his worth.
“It is not a mistake for Sir Michael to appoint Polye as his deputy, which made the people of the highlands region happy.
“We, NA executives in Chimbu, extend our congratulations and wish him all the best,” Eremuge said.
He also expressed gratitude to Sir Michael for appointing another NA man, Lucas Dawa Dekena (Gumine) as minister for lands and Kerowagi MP Guma Wau as culture and tourism minister.
He commended Sir Michael for recognising the people of Chimbu and the highlands region.
Eremuge also applauded the prime minister’s decision to return the trade and immigration portfolios to Wabag MP and Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Abal.
“Abal has done a lot of good for the highlands and he deserves those portfolios,” the Chimbu NA boss said.
Other MPs in the highlands given ministries were Benjamin Poponawa (Civil Aviation), John Pundari (Mining) and Francis Potape (Climate Change).
