A K154 MILLION project to upgrade the Jackson International Airport for the arrival of delegates to the Apec Summit has been completed, according to the National Airport Corporation.
The project includes the construction of a new VIP terminal facility, extension of airport apron and the overlaying of the main airport runaway.
It will be handed over to the Apec Coordinating Authority on Sunday.
NAC managing director Richard Yopo said the extension of the airport apron meant the airport could now to cater for 10 big aircraft instead of five as was the case.
It can also accommodate an aircraft the size of the B747 jumbo jet.
He said the new VIP terminal facility and the extension of the apron or tarmac costs around K65 million funded by the National Government.
The overlaying of the runway cost K65 million – K50 million funded by the NAC and K15 million funded by the Apec Authority.
