A MASTER plan is being worked on for a Lae Nadzab Airport city concept to start taking shape alongside the airport redevelopment, National Airports Corporation (NAC) acting managing director and chief executive officer Rex Kiponge says.
“As soon as the project is completed, we have a master plan,” he said.
“The Lae Airport city concept will be rolled out.
“At the moment our team on the ground are concurrently working on the master plan.
“When the airport is complete, the commercial aspects of the airport business hub must complement it.
“When the terminal and the runway is completed, the commercial side of the business must also complement it so that during the first travel of passengers, we would have commercial activities happening.
“That’s in the pipeline.
“We will have meetings with the works minister and secretary going forward.
“As soon as the airport is open, we also want to complement its opening with a road network from Lae to Nadzab.”
Kiponge said road improvement and upgrading would complement the new airport.
He said he was impressed with the way the contractor, with support staff, had worked on the airport redevelopment project.
Kiponge acknowledged the NAC project staff, who had done well, saying “the project was the first of its type”.
“The successive completion of this project will determine other airports in the country,” he said.
“We are happy with the progress of the project.
“The project is anticipated to be completed on time and within budget.
