WINNING an award at the International Training Institute’s 58th graduation in Port Moresby on Friday came as a surprise for Kimberly Naime but she was proud to have completed her diploma in marketing and management.
The 24-year-old, from Manamanu in Hiri, Central, was one of 260 graduates and claimed the principal’s award with K500.
Naime, the daughter of a truck driver and a housewife and vendor, said she was grateful for her parents’ support and wanted to make them proud as well as learn skills that would help her family.
“I took up that course because in my whole life growing, we do sales and marketing for our family and I wanted to change that life style in a more professional manner,” the third child in a family of five siblings said.
She said it was challenging being part of a big family but everyone played their role to support.
Naime said she was motivated to do well after her two elder siblings dropped out of school after grade 10. She said she was consistent, committed and disciplined toward her studies.
Naime thanked ITI for the opportunity. She said she was excited about finding a job and starting a career.
ITI chairman Senthil Kumaran Sentheyval said the graduation was a relief for the institute after disruptions caused mainly by restrictions due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19).
He said among new developments at the institute, its library would be stocked with 2,200 new books and publications while the computer lab would also be improved.
