VANIMO Green MP Belden Namah says the decision by two Ccabinet ministers to quit their positions was made in the best interests of the country.
Namah welcomed the decision of former Finance Minister James Marape and Minister for Justice and Attorney-General Davis Steven, saying that to relinquish two such senior ministries showed and reflected what he and the Opposition had been saying on the level of corrupt and dictatorial style of leadership of the country.
He said their reason given “clearly tells that their advices have been ignored and they have been dictated to undermine the discharge of their functions and responsibilities and instead he (prime minister) dealt with the bureaucrats (secretaries)”.
Namah said both ministers had also testified that key institutions of the State had been compromised and made dysfunctional and these were matters of concern for the nation.
“They have done the right thing for the love of our country. I welcome their bold move and commend them highly. It is our duty as elected representatives to take remedial action now. Our democratic values are fast eroding, our national debt is ballooning uncontrollably and our economy is in shambles,” Namah said.
“The micro management of ministerial functions and responsibilities go against the spirit of collective reasonability of exclusive government and power sharing.
“The NEC and Parliament have been turned into rubber stamps to legitimise self-serving policies, legislative and executive agendas of the prime minister and his band of individuals who surround him.”
