A K100,000 worth of food has provided much relief to about 2000 people in the north coast area of Milne Bay hit by strong winds in March.
Deputy Prime Minister and Alotau MP Charles Abel gave them 26 tonnes of rice and supplies were also extended to other less-affected villages in south and north Makamaka.
Many families who received their share of the supplies were evidently overwhelmed by the relief assistance and could be heard openly expressing their appreciation for the kind gesture shown by their local MP.
Former Archbishop of the Anglican Church of PNG Rev Clyde Igara said the supplies were comforting and encouraging.
“Mukawa has been one of those wards in central Makamaka which had been hard-hit. This relief assistance is timely,” he said.
Mukawa ward vice-chairman said though the assistance may have been a short-term measure, he was thankful that it would go a long way in resolving their food crisis.
