NEXT year is expected to be better for East New Britain with its major road infrastructure that the national government had committed to fund.
The Toma-Ratunur road in the Gazelle district, received K3 million from the government last Thursday.
Deputy Prime Minister Belden Namah was in East New Britain for the groundbreaking ceremony with Deputy Speaker Francis Marus and Member for Gazelle Malakai Tabar.
Namah made an extra commitment of K2 million to extend the road to Gaulim.
He said he had told Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to recognise the 72 MPs who had lent him their support.
He said East New Britain had supported the government with three of its leaders and would be recognised by government’s support to the province for major infrastructure.
Namah told the people they would be making a mistake in the 2012 general election if they did not re-elect Tabar.
He said people must vote for leaders who feared God and had great fear of misusing public money.
Namah officiated at the occasion at 8pm in front of a large crowd that had been waiting since 11am.
He told them that their patience had paid off and gave them K50,000 from his pocket as a Christmas gift.
He assured the people it was not public money belonging to the people of Vanimo-Green but was from his personal business.
Tabar challenged contractors, Gazelle district administration, national works and stakeholders to follow the arrangement of contract that would be signed in order to successfully complete the road.
