Namah seeking more time to appeal court decision

Main Stories

SUSPENDED Opposition Leader Belden Namah has filed an application in the Supreme Court seeking an extension to the 21 days given to him by the court to appeal a decision.
It is believed that Namah is trying to file a slip rule application against a Supreme Court ruling by a five-men bench delivered on May 29. The Supreme Court, on the date, dismissed Namah’s Supreme Court application regarding the constitutionality of Prime Minister James Marape’s election in last May.
The court had found that Namah had no standings to file the proceedings as he was still under suspension from duties following a decision by leadership tribunal recommending his suspension for being found guilty of misconduct in office.
On July 5, 2018, Namah obtained a stay order over the tribunal’s decision.
Namah had claimed that there was a slip in the five-men bench ruling delivered on May 29, over his case filed against Marape’s election.
However, Namah would only have the chance to file the slip rule application if he was granted leave for an extension of the 21 days to file a slip rule application. Namah’s 21 days to appeal the decision will lapse today. His application for extension of time will be heard today.
