WAMPAR local level government president Peter Namus is pushing to have a Morobe Chamber of Commerce to look after the interest of local entrepreneurs.

Namus, also the provincial chairman of law and order, said this last Wednesday after plans by Morobe Governor Kelly Naru to open up PMV operating licences to locals in the nine districts emerged.

“I suggest we set up something like a chamber of commerce to facilitate local Morobeans’ business ventures, something like the Lae Chamber of Commerce and Industries,” he said.

“We need to protect our interests, we need such an institution in place for round table discussions.”

Naru agreed that it was a good suggestion.

Namus said he is starting to mobilise local Morobe businessmen to push for such a representative body.
