SUMKAR MP Chris Nangoi has urged students in his district to study hard and do well in school in order to pursue their education at a higher level.
He made the statement when speaking during the opening of a new double classroom for Dor Primary School at Kaul village on Karkar Island, Sumkar, Madang.
Nangoi told the students that there were no short cuts to success but through hardwork in school and in attaining good grades in order to continue and complete their education.
“The only way for you to be successful and to prosper in life is to be educated and you must make use of this opportunity when you are in the formal education system,” he said.
“You are fortunate that funding has been allocated for a double classroom for your school and I expect you to make use of it, as you are the future leaders of your communities, Karkar Island and Madang province.” Nangoi thanked parents and the community for working together with the contractor and the school in to ensure that construction was completed on time for the students to use in learning.
Present at the opening of the classroom were head teachers of the nearby Bumsol, Taleng and Cosmos primary schools.
The K60,000 funding of the double classroom was part of K2 million allocated for education by the Sumkar development authority.
Grade eight student, Elvin Peter, who spoke on behalf of the students, said they were grateful for the funding allocation which now they had a new classroom to study and learn in.
“This kind gesture by our local MP shows that he loves his people and thinks of us and we are grateful for this,” Peter said.
Nangoi also reminded the island’s leaders to work together to deliver services to the people.
