MOROBE Governor Kelly Naru has asked Works Minister Francis Awesa to seriously consider upgrading Lae roads which have been ignored for too long.

During debate on the infrastructure programme update by the department on roads development, Naru urged the Government to work on city roads either left incomplete or under-developed.

He said there had been too much political and bureaucratic leadership delaying the road projects of the city.

“I want the Lae city road projects to get off the ground. Why is the political leadership dragging its feet on this matter?” he said.

“If this continues, then this year might not turn out to be the year of implementation.

“Let us all get down to work and get the projects on Lae roads done.

“I call on Awesa to kick the backsides of your bureaucracy to get on with work for the Lae roads.

“My teams at the provincial and district levels are ready to work and we all need the same kind of alertness to roll out all the road projects together.”

Naru also criticised the government for giving attention only to NCD roads and questioned why a large amount of funds was appropriated for that while the fast expanding Lae city was given only K10 million.

He said the report presented by Awesa was incomplete as it did not provide any report on the NCD road  development which was assisted by the government recently.
