NASFUND has introduced the short messaging service (SMS) to improve member services.

Chief executive officer Ian Tarutia said: “Nasfund is the first organisation in PNG to serve clients on a massive-scale via SMS for service-oriented organisations.

“The addition of an SMS medium of communication directly from staff computers compliments existing services through email, phone calls, text-back and online balances,” he said.

Nasfund’s information technology manager Charlie Gilichibi said typing SMS directly from a personal computer (PC) is convenient and faster.

“Providing updates to members is cheaper with SMS, than calling them which takes extra processes in picking up the handset and dialling numbers.

The SMS can only receive text messages from members but not mobile calls.

The superfund can respond to text enquiries or provide updates to members directly from their PCs on the following: queried applications, approved applications, rejected applications and general enquiries.

The service was launched at the head office’s operations division on Tuesday and is currently being rolled out to include the communications centre, Nasfund Contributors Savings and Loans Society (NCSL) and Nasfund branches nationwide.
