Nationwide consultation over election

PEOPLE will be given ample opportunity to offer their views on the election of a prime minister by them, says Prime Minister James Marape.
He said wide consultation would be carried out throughout the country on the subject.
“The public is entitled to give their opinion on this issue and other key issues as well,” Marape said.
He was speaking during a national panel discussion with Opposition Leader Joseph Lelang organised by the University of PNG Student Representative Council yesterday.
“It will not be a rushed job. There will be consultations,” he said.
“There will have to be a clear pathway for voting.
“We are looking at a systematic NID voting process.
“This is still work in progress.”
Marape said there must also be a clear indication on the terms for the prime minister.
On the motion of no-confidence against a prime minister, he said it would be considered to allow for checks and balances.
Lelang said the issue of whether people should elect a prime minister was yet to be tabled in Parliament.
