NATIONAL Capital District Metropolitan Supt Silva Sika says he will deal with drivers of public vehicles, especially buses and taxis, who park in regular parking spots in the city, causing inconvenience to other road users.
Sika said four-lane roads in the city had been reduced to congested one-lane roads because of unnecessary parking and inconsiderate behaviour by PMV drivers which could lead to traffic collisions. “Your safety and others must be the priority because the lives of the people you are carrying are in your hands when you are driving,” he said.
“Many things in the city are not right and apart from dealing with criminals and crime, road and public transport has become another major issue in the city.”
Sika said at a meeting between representatives from the police, Road Traffic Authority and Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd and buses and taxi operators at Unagi Oval in Gordon yesterday.
“Don’t become a victim of your own attitude and blame police that you don’t know the law, good values and ethics,” he said.
Sika said he was interested in creating a safe city for the people.
“We call came in the city with different intentions.
“My job is to make the city a safer place,” he said.
