NATIONAL Capital District Schools Rugby League has postponed its finals to Wednesday due to venue issues, according to an official.
League president Arnold Gende told The National last week that they would complete the finals before Christmas.
“We were all set to kick off the finals on Tuesday with the Moresby North-West schools, but it did not eventuate as planned,” he said.
“We wanted to use oval two of the Oil Search National Football Stadium, but there are some delays.
“Talks between the Port Moresby Rugby Football League and venue management are ongoing.
“Hopefully, we would get clearance from them to use the oval from next week.
“We will kick off on Wednesday and continue on Thursday to complete the eliminations.
“We’ll then try squeeze in the semifinals and grand finals in the following week.”
Meanwhile, Gende urged all participating schools to be prepared for the season to be completed on time.
He encouraged the sports teachers to provide the support needed to their teams in all three divisions.
The finals will be played in Under-14s, U16s and U18s for boys and girls respectively.
“Schools rugby league is the foundation and a very important concept in the country,” Gende said.
“We have to make sure it gets bigger and better each year.
“For this year, we want to make sure we complete the season successfully.”
