NCD teachers await postings

SOME teachers in the National Capital District have not received their postings and want Education Minister Joseph Yopyyopy to look into it.
A secondary school teacher, speaking on behalf of a group of primary, secondary and vocational school teachers yesterday, said they had not been given their postings and were displaced.
The teacher, who did not wish to disclose his identity, said: “We are supposed to get a notice of appointment letter before the new school year begins informing us where to go but that has not happened.
“We are concerned as we are already into the first week of the school year and we haven’t received anything yet.”
He said they were also concerned because they were not just teachers but teachers with children who needed to pay for school fees and accommodation.
“There are positions that we have applied for but there is no change in that so far too.”
Meanwhile, NCDES assistant secretary Sam Lora clarified that the officer in charge of teachers’ appointments was out of office due to illness, causing the delay in the postings of some teachers.
“Only those teachers on tenure positions were given their postings including some of those on acting positions,” Lora said.
He said teachers had to understand that his office did not just make appointments or give them positions they applied for.
“There is a long process in the screening procedures of teachers applying for senior level positions,” he said.
“We do that to ensure quality education for our children so positions are given according to performance and nothing else.”
He added that those teachers who had initially missed out on their postings could expect to receive their appointments between now and mid-February.
