NDB must explain decision to quit Mendi

Letters, Normal

I WOULD like to commend my MP Pr Isaac Joseph for raising the alarm in parliament over the closure of the National Development Bank (NDB) branch in Mendi, Southern Highlands.
I have yet to see comments or support by other SHP MPs because ending the operation of such an important entity in the province is a slap on the face of the people.
The NDB was established purposely to boost the struggling rural dwellers and entrepreneurs so they can venture into business activities and, ultimately, boost our economy.
But the NDB did not explain nor justify why it is ceasing its operation in SHP.
Since its establishment in 1967, its primary function in PNG is to provide accessible development credit to citizens to engage in income generation to improve the quality of lives of our people, especially the people in the rural areas where 80% of our people live.
Is the NDB management telling Southern Highlanders that the province does not have any rural people?
Or is it being driven by mismanagement, biasness and shortsightedness?
If NDB is looking for demand, there is no shortage as there are many local entrepreneurs who want to venture into various business activities.
If it is because of law and order problem, where on earth will you find a place without such problems?
The NDB management has to explain and justify its decision to shut down.
I can only assume that the bank has a management problem and this has led to a decision to cease its operation in Mendi.
