N’Dranou getting tough on sale of firearms

Selling of ammunitions and firearms to unlicensed citizens is illegal and will not be tolerated in the city, says NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Pero N’Dranou .
He said there were proper processes for firearm licence holders to follow and get security clearance before transporting arms and ammunitions in and out of the city.
He commended security personnel from airlines and the airport police for their quick response in apprehending a suspect who allegedly attempted to smuggle ammunitions out of the city.
N’Dranou issued cautioned firearms licence holders to be very careful with their licences.
“If anything needs to be done, it has to be done correctly before firearms or ammunitions are moved on and out of the city,” he said.
“Firearms licence holders must not breach their licence conditions when third parties to handle guns and ammunitions.”
Airport police station commander Detective Chief Sergeant Robert Wane said all passengers travelling with licensed firearms should report to airport police for security checks.
“State firearms also go through the same process, whether it is police, Defence or Correctional Services, we have to ensure the purpose of travel and confirm with departments.” Wane said.
