Netball matches start after Christmas break

MATCHES for the Private Companies Netball Competition (PCNC) resumed over the weekend at the Rita Flynn netball courts following a break during the 2019 Christmas-New Year period.
Games in the premier division saw Moore Printing overcome Air Niugini 21-8 in their first outing for 2020 with Clara Scott shooting nine goals in her side’s win yesterday.
Air Niugini’s Esther Babona and Kila Leka were unable to keep with the pace set by Moore, however, a slow first half from them would see the match the slip away with Moore proving quicker on the court.
The next premier match saw Westpac dominate QBE Doves 20-9 following a superb performance from Elina Ripason whose efforts gave her side a 14-2 lead at halftime.
The second half saw the Doves fight back with 15-year-old centre Kecila Vuivagi leading the charge with several touches while their defence, headed by Vanessa Maso, restricted Westpac to six points to end the match.
PCNC president Julie Mai said the resumption of the competition saw a poor turnout from some teams with a few divisions forfeiting games.
“We started slowly and we know that teams are still yet to get back into the normal mood of matches,” she said.
Mai said she expected teams to be better organised in the coming weeks as the finals would be held next month and teams would need to play to earn competition points.
