NETBALL Papua New Guinea, headed by Ulato Avei, has recalled Ani Iamo as Pepes coach for the M1 Nations Cup in Singapore.
PNG, are competing in the Oct 20-26 tournament.
PNG, ranked 20th in the world, will be making their eighth Cup appearance at the Oct 20-26 tournament which will also feature Botswana (26th), Ireland (25th), Namibia (33rd), Singapore (28th) and the Cook Islands (12th).
Before leaving for Singapore yesterday, former Pepe Iamo said it was good to be back again coaching the national team.
“I thank Avei and her executives for having the confidence in me and appointing me to the role,” she said.
“This team is made up of experienced hands in Tau Galewa, Courtney Abel, Isabelle Andrew, Kimberly Alex, Ravu Ravusiro and Waisame Andrew, and youth in Eva Aua and Alexandra Ligo.
“We’ve gelled well, with the experience players taking the lead and encouraging the younger ones to keep up the pace.
“We need to concentrate on our defence so we can force turnovers whenever we are presented the opportunity.
“The other countries have taller players so we’ll have to keep up with the pressure from the first quarter.
“This is a good team that we have developed especially with the young players in the side. Tournaments like this will only build their experience going forward.
“We have a good combination in the midcourt with energetic youngsters to run the show according to our game plan. Our shooters will have to make sure that every goal-scoring opportunity counts.”
