Network to boost communication

PEOPLE of West New Britain will experience cheaper and faster internet services by September when the Kumul submarine fibre optic cable network is expected to be switched on.
The Kumul submarine fibre optic cable landed in Kimbe last week and was received by Governor Francis Maneke and his provincial executive council members and other dignitaries.
“These are exciting times for the province because all sectors stand to benefit from cheaper, faster and reliable internet service,” he said.
Maneke said the provincial government would continue its partnership with PNG DataCo Ltd to roll out this vital service to cover the entire province.
“The province has in place the 150 kilometres of power line from Kimbe to Bialla and this can be used to deliver the internet service all the way to Bialla while suitable options will be looked at for Kandrian Gloucester.”
Maneke said the provincial government provided counter funding of K200, 000 which enabled three government institutions to be connected to the cable network.
These institutions were the provincial health authority, Kimbe Secondary School and the provincial government.
