CHILE, the host of Apec 2019, has asked the United States and China to end their trade and tariffs war which is benefitting no one, including Papua New Guinea.
“All countries will have to change course the best way so we can achieve agreements in this world,” he said.
“I know that business leaders in attendance here today will agree that Apec is not only about numbers but a thriving community of forward looking and courageous men and women who know no boundaries when it comes to opportunity.”
He told the Apec Chief Executive Officers’ Summit on Saturday that some people thought that CEOs were the source of most of the world’s problems.
“I think exactly the opposite. The problem is the lack of more visionary and committed CEOs,” he said.
“This is how economy can prosper and this is precisely what makes the business community so relevant at times with the benefits of free trade and globalisation are in big danger.
“I think it is a very good opportunity to ask, the US and China to find ways to end their Tariffs and trade way which benefit no one and at the end of the day, it will hurt all countries.”
Meanwhile, chairman of the Apec CEO Summit 2018 Isikeli Taureka said reducing income inequality, improving productivity and raising real income growth at the low and medium income groups were fruits of becoming an inclusive society.
Chairman of the Apec 2019 Summit Jean-Paul Luksic said the age of disruption and digital transformation could represent a threat to some countries.
“Important transformations are taking place at a speed that we have never seen before,” Luksic said.
