New association launched

PNG Government accountants now have their own association which was launched by Finance Minister James Marape yesterday.
Marape, who will be the patron of the association, told The National that the PNG Association of Government Accountants and Pubic Finance Managers Incorporated supported the new Public Finance Management Act.
“We put this law so that the public servants don’t spend outside of the budget but spend within the budget,” he said.
“The previous laws were outside of the budget. Next year, we will be working on the procurement law. So we just want to put that in a stand-alone procurement law.”
Finance Secretary Dr Ken Ngangan said the aim of the association was to build a cadre of skilled professionals in the public sector.
“After the launching, that organisation will come into effect.
