New banker targets locals

Business

A financial institution in Lae has opened its doors to provide basic financial assistance to local people and the community in small-scale banking and financing.
Lionard Finance Limited (LFL) managing director Dickson Moses said the increasing demand of average people needing financial assistance to pay for their children’s school fees and other needs motivated him to set up his business.
He said generally, commercial banks had strict policies and simple people were left out as they could not meet certain standards or requirements to have access to financial assistance.
“My aim is to assist our local people,” he said. “Even though our country is blessed with all the rich resource minerals, we are still way back in terms of infrastructure development in our rural districts and in some of our towns.
“Papua New Guineans have to change their attitudes and do something to contribute to the development of our people and of the country.
“We cannot always rely on government or overseas donors to do everything for us.
“I graduated in 2017 with a diploma in information technology and with the basic knowledge I acquired, I still did not think it could assist me to find a job. Therefore, I decided to enter the financial sector.”
