A NEW darts association, Ahi Pulup, has attracted 20 clubs that meet every Saturday at City Guest House to participate in the competition.
According to president Jerry Manjawi, the association was the result of hosting a Christmas-New Year competition that attracted a huge number of players.
Manjawi said seeing the interest among the dart players, it had prompted them to start an association that could provide an avenue for young people to develop their skills in the sport.
“We have five associations in Lae and after starting this competition, we can see there are plenty of darts followers in town,” he said.
“This association also backs the idea that we can promote the sport and involve a lot of young people.
“It’s our first year and we are registered with the PNG Dart Federation.
“We are recognised by the federation as a stand-alone association.”
Manjawi said the association had 20 teams registered and was the largest association in Lae.
He commended the landlord providing the venue free of charge for the association to run its competition.
Manjawi said the association and the landlord were working together on the understanding that it’s a win-win situation for both parties in terms of business.
“We are 11 games into the season,” he said.
“In terms of registration, money is sometimes hard to come by but teams have been levied per registration of K300 and player registration of K20.
“The deadline for registration had been set but with the current economic situation, it has been relaxed.
“We have two rounds with 11 games so far played in round one which should end at the beginning of July.
“The second round will resume from there on and we should finish in early November and then we will have four weeks of finals.”
Standings: CTL Watani on 16 points, 13A Settlers 16, Isapea 14, Zulu Blue 14 and Peskol 12.
