New graduates from teachers’ colleges miss out on postings

GRADUATES from teachers’ colleges this year have not been included in the Morobe primary schools postings for next year.
The 2018 appointments were made this week.
Morobe have at least 500 teacher vacancies.
Morobe education programme adviser Keith Jiram said the vacancies would be filled by the new graduates after they undergo proper reviews for the jobs.
He warned that any new graduate coming forward without proper valid certificates, transcripts and other documents would be automatically overlooked for a teaching position next year.
The new graduates are also advised that those with a grade point average below two will not be accepted because quality and standard were important for the province.
“In previous years, we have seen that newly graduated teachers cannot speak and write quality English while some cannot do proper programming and time-tabling for their operations,” Jiram said.
“That is the reason why in Morobe we have to impose some measures to curb those problems in order to achieve the best in the education for our children”.
“We have two criteria that we will look at carefully before accepting teachers from other provinces to come and teach in this province next year.
He said any teacher coming to the province must produce an official transfer release letter signed by respective programme adviser for that particular province and a character reference from their inspector.
The character reference will identify who that teacher is and what kind of attitude the teacher has towards his work, students and other teachers as well as general work ethics.
