The PNG Rugby Football League Southern Confederation has appointed Port Moresby Rugby League deputy chairman Manu Lofena, pictured, as the caretaker administrator to complete the Rigo Rugby League season.
Southern Confederation director Gwaibo Mairi said Lofena appointment was effective as of last week to ensure the finals was completed.
Mairi suspended the Rigo league executive for their poor management of the competition which saw several disruptions.
Lofena welcomed his appointment saying it was good for rugby league development in Rigo.
“The aim is to complete the season with the support of my deputy Buri Gabi and we will work to ensure that the season is completed,” Lofena said.
“We have the support of local businesswoman Viki Mosin as one of the league’s sponsors.
“We are also talking to other potential sponsors to come on board and support the league” Lofena said.
In the weekend’s results, Bigai Brothers and Giroea Roosters qualified for the A grade preliminary finals at Kwilkila Oval on Saturday.
Brothers beat Imoty Magani 12-8 while Roosters edged Kwilkila Dragons 8-4.
The matches were witnessed by good crowds.
Major sponsor Vitis Industries used the weekend fixtures to promote its products.
On Saturday, Brothers take on SK Broncos and Roosters are up against SK Bulldogs to determine the A grade grand finalists.
In the Under-20 semifinals, SK Broncos play Bore Bunatas and SK Bulldogs meet Bigai Brothers.
Lofena, Gabi and Mairi will be at Kwikila to watch the games.
Lofena appealed to clubs to take ownership and instill a professionalism approach to their conduct and preparation for the weekend’s fixtures.
He commended all the stake holders and supporters for their good behaviour.
