TWO newcomers to cabinet who were sworn in last week spent only a few days there before moving to the Opposition camp last weekend.
Lagaip-Porgera MP Tomait Kapili, who was appointed Minister assisting the Prime Minister on Constitutional Matters and Bougainville Affairs, said he spent only one day in his office.
He had to resign when his fellow United Resources Party MPs led by William Duma joined the Opposition camp on Friday.
Kapili said he sent his resignation letter to the office of the Prime Minister from the Opposition camp at the Laguna Hotel.
He said he did not regret it as the Cabinet position was given to him as a URP MP.
“I was approached to join (the Opposition) earlier but I remained loyal to my party so I did not move. I told leaders who approached me to talk to my party leader,” he said.
The other cabinet minister who served for only one day after the swearing-in ceremony was Kundiawa-Gembogl MP William Onglo, who was appointed Minister for Defence.
Onglo is also a member of the URP led by Duma.
