NEW Papua New Guinea Volleyball Association Incorporated (PNGVAI) president Edward Aisi says the priority of the sport will now be on junior development.
Voted in as president during PNGVAI’s annual general meeting on Saturday, he said the sport needed a permanent office at Port Moresby’s Taurama Aquatic and Indoor Centre.
“There are exciting times ahead for volleyball,” he told The National.
“We’re going to revive junior development.
“I am a product of junior development in 1993 and 1994.
“ It worked for me and it enabled me to play at the highest level.
“But the programme was shelved for some years so that’s something I want to re-introduce.
“I want to take in a new approach for the juniors where we look at the Under-15s and build from there to the U19s.
“We’ll try to put in a place agreements with a few schools so we can re-introduce the sport in inter-school carnivals.
“We can talk to the Education Department and draw up a few proposals to have volleyball classes here at Taurama.
“This will allow us to garner interest among young players.”
