New shop for Western artists, crafters

Business

People in Western who produce traditional art and crafts will now be benefiting from the new souvenir shop opened in Kiunga last week.
Through the Ok Tedi Development Foundation’s (OTDF) inception of women and children’s fund initiated in 2007, women took the opportunity and ventured into bigger business activities .
OTDF programme services executive manager Eric Kuman said empowering women to invest into business and decision making should be maintained to produce leaders in the country and provinces.
He said such initiatives paved way for local women to invest into business and help solve development problems in Western.
“Many women in this country have no chance in making decisions,” Kuman said.
“They are suppressed, stigmatised and not given opportunity to make decisions.
“I applaud women leaders of Nupmo to make decisions into investments and other development as well.”
OTDF acting chief executive officer Renagi Koiro congratulated the Nupmo Women’s Investment Ltd for taking the lead in establishing the shop to sell local artefacts.
“To help and assist this investment grow, we must respect the management of the business and we must accept the decisions they are making for business,” Koiro said.
“There is no time for abuse. There is no time for mismanagement.
“Those are things of the past.”
